Jim began practicing real estate law in 1981 and has closed many thousands of real estate transactions. Whether representing the first-time home buyer or the experienced home buyer, he enjoys explaining the transaction and confirming the client is comfortable in completing a major financial milestone in their life.
He has experience in drafting real estate contracts, homeowner association documents, and many of the related documents that go into buying raw land and turning it into home sites and then homes. In addition to closing residential real estate purchases, Jim has closed several multi million dollar real estate acquisitions and loans.
Jim enjoys running, having completed the Richmond marathon in 2015 and several half marathons and SK races. His motto is “if it were not for us slow runners there would not be fast runners.”
Jim was born in Elkin, North Carolina. Yes, he is a hillbilly. He met his wife, Jo, who is from eastern North Carolina, in a Principles of Accounting class in college where they both majored in accounting. Jim and Jo like to visit their four children, grandchild, and granddogs that are stretched between Tennessee, Rhode Island, Michigan, and California.
They are strong supporters of our armed forces. At one time, their two daughters were Navy officers, one son was a Marine officer and his twin brother was a Coast Guard petty officer.
